“More than once has Sexton Blake been condemned to death, yet have the fates been with him. He has escaped, and still lives to oppose the will of the brotherhood. But this time he dies. I, Wu Ling, say it, and woe be to him who gets him into his power and allows him to escape.” ~Wu Ling, The Yellow Tiger, 1915
The Yellow Tiger—the first issue of the Sexton Blake Library—was announced with great fanfare back in 1915. Featuring Wu Ling, Yvonne and Baron de Beauremon it was considered by many fans to be Teed’s greatest work and even perhaps, the finest Blake tale ever written. Whatever your view, it’s an epic adventure that no fan should miss.
The other tales in the collection don’t skimp on excitement! In the first tale, The Case of the Cabinet Minister, Blake impersonates the Minister for European Affairs to distract German spies from an important government mission.
In the second tale, The Case of the ’Frisco Leper, Dr. Huxton Rymer arrives in San Francisco during the World Fair. A chance encounter sets in motion a blackmail scheme in which he attempts to hold the entire city for ransom.
Yvonne features in four solo tales from her early days, when, as a 17-year-old, she helped her father run Binabong Station in Central Australia. These four tales—The Lust of Gold, The Bushranger’s Secret, The Pearl of Samu, and The Lone Horseman—are published together for the very first time.
Lastly, in Edges of Steel, Nelson Lee and Nipper travel to Paris to once again confront the Black Wolf. Will they survive their latest encounter with the infamous criminal mastermind?
This is the tenth of several anthologies that collect George Hamilton Teed’s most popular works from 1913 to 1917. Each edition includes all of the original illustrations! Enjoy!
The Yellow Tiger: "The first ever edition of the Sexton Blake Library is a fine example of Blake at his best. This case has everything: chases by air, road and sea; edge-of-death escapades; rough-housing and shoot-outs; evil villains and a strong love interest."
