About the Author

Salgari dayaki Emilio Salgari (1862-1911) was a writer of action adventure swashbucklers and a pioneer of Italian science fiction. He is one of Italy's most translated authors and is considered the father of Italian adventure fiction and the grandfather of the Spaghetti Western. He wrote more than 200 adventure novels and short stories, many of which are considered classics in Europe and Latin America. In 1897, he was named Knight of the Order of the Crown of Italy for his contributions to popular Italian literature.

"Set in 1869, this tale has all the elements of true swashbuckling adventure: courageous and dashing heroes, daring escapes, reprehensible villains, and a damsel in need of rescuing. Each time the resourceful Sandokan and Yanez are about to win the day, Salgari inserts another twist that requires them to overcome new challenges and compels the reader to turn the page. If you seek an old-fashioned swashbuckler, this one will not disappoint." ~Cindy Vallar, The Bookaneer, Pirates and Privateers

"These many stories, written long ago by Italian writer Emilio Salgari, a Jules Verne equal, evoke great images of swashbuckling adventuress in anyone with imagination and dreams of adventure. They are an excellent exercise for the imagination and better reading than much of what is published nowadays for action readers of all ages. An excellent gift for anyone from 5 to 50...." ~ M. Lackner, Amazon.com

"There is enough action in The King of the Sea to keep the reader turning its pages, a love component, a Jules Verne type of genius character with a marvelous invention he uses to combat Sandokan’s enemies, and a fine surprise ending. All in all, The King of the Sea is a satisfying addition to a thrilling saga." ~Victor Rodriguez, Reviewer on Amazon.com, February 2, 2019
